China has officially extended its visa-free travel policies through December 31, 2026 for 45 countries.

This policy allows visitors to enter China for business, tourism, family visits, or transit without a visa for up to 30 days.

The renewed visa-free policy now includes a diverse list of countries, with Sweden being the newest addition.

You can complete your entry form digitally now before you arrive, speeding up your arrival process significantly.

30-Day Visa-Free Eligibility

Unfortunately, passport holders from US, Canada, and UK are not included in this visa-free extension.

You’re eligible if you hold an ordinary passport from one of these 45 eligible nations:

Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Oman, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Uruguay.

Visa Policy for Transits

Additionally, China expanded its 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit policy to more ports, allowing certain eligible travelers from 55 countries to stay in China without a visa for up to 10 days when transiting to a third country.

This includes the UK, US, Canada, Russia, Indonesia.

Travellers must hold onward tickets to a third country/region.

For direct transits under 24 hours, you don’t need a visa. This applies to all countries as long as you remain within the airport’s transit area.

For longer stays or other activities, apply for the appropriate visa in advance.

Why Is China A Trending Destination?

It’s been 8 years since our family travelled to China, and this year, we loved it so much that we went back twice. The difference between then and now is night and day.

The service attitude has done a complete 180°, the advancement in tech makes daily life incredibly convenient, and the air in cities like Beijing is genuinely clearer.

China offers an almost overwhelming range of attractions.

  • For history, there’s Xi’an’s Terracotta Army.
  • For epic landscapes, the jagged peaks of Zhangjiajie’s Yuanjiajie Scenic Area are unforgettable.
  • For food, Chengdu and Guangzhou are culinary capitals.
  • And for a glimpse of the future, Shenzhen and Shanghai will blow your mind.

Coming from Australia, China travel unlocks tremendous value for our dollar. And the truth is, China is more accessible and family-friendly than you’ve been led to believe.

How to Prepare for a China Trip

1. Setup WeChat & Payment

  • Download WeChat and complete identity verification.
  • Go to Me > Services > Wallet > Cards to add your international card to WeChat Pay.
  • Pay by scanning merchant QR codes or having them scan your payment code.
  • Use WeChat’s mini programs for pretty much everything in China: tickets (trains, flights, attractions), travel bookings, transport, food orders, and shopping.
  • Chick on the 3 dots on the top right corner of the mini programs, and select ‘translate’ to view the pages in English!

2. Get Connected

3. Download DeepSeek AI chatbot

Deepseek or a similar Chinese AI chatbot works much better in China. We use Deepseek for it’s English version.

It comes in handy for reading Chinese menus, translating, asking for help with Wechat features, and searching for travel information.

4. Essential Gear

Don’t forget to bring a universal power adapter for Chinese sockets. Alternatively, purchase one when you arrive.

Last Notes

So there you have it. The door is open until 2026, and what you’ll find on the other side might just surprise you.

We returned from my last trip genuinely excited about how much China has changed. The combination of sheer convenience, genuine warmth from people, and incredible value makes this one of the most rewarding destinations right now.

This is your sign to finally book that trip. See the Great Wall, explore the futuristic cities, and taste the incredible food. The new China is waiting, and it’s more accessible than ever.
