Choosing The Right Accommodation in Apia
When planning a family vacation, choosing the right accommodation can set the tone for the entire trip. For families, the ideal accommodation should not only be comfortable and luxurious but also cater to the unique needs of both parents and children.
When it comes to luxury accommodation in Apia Samoa, there are only a handful of resorts in Apia that can be considered ‘luxury’ on an international scale, which makes it easier when planning your trip to Apia. These accommodations are usually located on the water’s edge, with spacious and beautifully designed villas, infinity pools and a wide range of family-friendly amenities. And depending on your interpretation of ‘luxury’, a private holiday home with a garden may just be your perfect home away from home.
The Impact of the Pandemic
The pandemic has really affected Samoa’s hospitality industry, and many establishments are still on the path to recovery. Keeping this in mind, if we shift our expectations from modern 5-star amenities to appreciating the unrivalled beauty of a Pacific Island, you’ll find that most accommodations in Apia, irrespective of their star ratings, offer a unique fusion of comfort and adventure. That being said, it’s always a good idea to check the latest reviews on platforms like Booking.com or Expedia as developing islands like Apia are constantly evolving.
One thing you can count on, no matter which resort or fale you choose, is the warm-hearted island hospitality where the staff adore kids and welcome families like their own.
Our Family Holiday in Apia
Our family trip to Apia took us around the island, from the east to the west at the end of October, when it was shoulder season and tourism was quiet. This anti-clockwise route around Apia gave us the opportunity to not only check off most things to do on our Samoa bucket list, but also experience a variety of accommodations in Apia. We stayed at 3 different luxury resorts scattered around the island, and due to maintenance at one of the hotels, we got to pamper ourselves at a top 5-star resort in Apia on a day pass, which we will talk about in a minute.
💡Insider Tip!
Now, if you’re up for a bit of adventure, consider staying at one of the open Beach Fales. These traditional Samoan houses are usually situated right on the beach, offering an unbeatable ocean view and the dreamy experience of waking up to the sound of the waves. It’s an authentic Samoan experience that we highly recommend.
The reason that held us back from booking a Fale was that I was still breastfeeding our baby, and we were underprepared in the insect repellent department. So, no matter where you’re staying in Samoa, packing a couple of strong insect repellents for yourselves is a must. As for kids, we highly recommend DEET-free Insect Repellents or Rollers. Remember to choose travel-size bottles and pack them in a clear Ziploc bag.
This little preparation can make your stay in a Fale, or anywhere in Apia, more comfortable.
In this post, we’re going to share our experiences of staying at different accommodations in Apia as well as our family’s top picks. This includes everything from luxury 4 & 5-star resorts to budget-friendly hotels scattered across the island.
